The Prison Ministry Team (PMT) of the Abilene-Callahan Baptist Association leads churches of the association in supporting Christian ministry to the Administration Staff, Security Officers, employees, volunteers, and those incarcerated at the Robertson Prison Unit and the Middleton Transfer Unit, just outside of Abilene.

Prison Employee Appreciation events:

  • In conjunction with Texas Baptist Men, the ACBA sponsored a Middleton Appreciation event, wherein a Disaster Feeding Truck from TBM was on the parking lot of the facility, providing a very delicious (and appreciated!) meal, and ACBA volunteers gathered to provide a “Thank You” for those who serve at the unit (this was a 2 day event to include all shifts). Children from 10 ACBA partner churches hand-crafted special “Thank You” cards which were handed out to each employee and volunteer (these were very touching a appreciated by all).

  • ACBA volunteers have also gathered to hand out water, snacks, and a “Thank You” to employees and security officers at the Robertson Prison Unit, as they were undergoing shift changes.

The ACBA attempts to work with, and be responsive to, the Prison Chaplains and Wardens. Employees work in a difficult environment, and such appreciations and support expressed by our Baptist partners bring encouragement and a Christian witness to those impacted.

The PMT of the Abilene-Callahan Baptist Association also supports the Field Ministers effort, a ministry involving the cooperation of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

  • Incarcerated Christian disciples are carefully screened and qualified, then trained with a seminary education (124 credit hours).  They are then assigned to prison units, where they become "pastors" to those in prison (the men in white). The Field Ministers at the Robertson Unit work under the direction of the prison unit Chaplains, with support from the Abilene-Callahan Baptist Association.

Their broad ministry includes:

* Evangelism

* Discipleship training

* Individual counseling

* Regular classroom instruction

* Conducting worship services

* Serving the needs of prisoners and their families

Your support of the Abilene-Callahan Baptist Association enables this local mission effort to continue, and to have an impact upon the employees and their families, and the incarcerated and their families.
