“Lend a Hand” began in April of 2019, after a meeting between the Director of Missions and the former Assistant Director of the Office of Neighborhood Services (City of Abilene). Both had a desire, and experiences, for assisting neighbors/citizens with various chores, repairs, projects and needs which might be beyond the citizen’s capabilities. The Assistant Director began referring citizens to the Abilene-Callahan Baptist Association. The DOM, then, visits the resident and surveys the project. He then locates a nearby church of the ACBA, and invites the Pastor/Missions Pastor to rally some assistance. Christians arrive to “Lend a Hand,” and are the presence of Christ to their neighbors.

Projects vary: debris cleanup; tree trimming; fence repair; patching the roof; minor plumbing issues; trash removal, to name a few. Neighbors are so very grateful for the assistance - some are physically or financially unable to do the project themselves. Some come out and help those who are helping. Church members are genuinely grateful to be involved in the mission of Jesus to their neighbors.

If you and/or a group from your church would like to participate in “Lend a Hand,” please contact the Director of Missions at 325-673-8349, or email Larry at director@acbaptists.org This is a wonderful, local, short term “mission project” that has an immediate impact upon those assisted, and upon those lending a hand!
